Dualist Inquiry (DJ set)

In the 15 years since Sahej Bakshi started out from his New Delhi bedroom studio, the producer better known as Dualist Inquiry has moved through India's electronic landscape with the kind of quiet intentionality that defines his best work. His 2013 debut LP ‘Doppelganger’ arrived as a revelation—a record that crystallised the possibilities of Indian electronica while transcending easy categorisation. The press
dubbed him the "poster boy of Indian electronica," but the music itself hinted at an artist already pushing against such convenient narratives. The years that followed saw Bakshi methodically expanding his sonic palette, each release mapping new coordinates in his artistic journey.

His latest, third album, When We Get There (2024), feels like both a culmination and a fresh start. Across nine tracks, Bakshi navigates themes of self-discovery and resilience with newfound clarity, his production more nuanced but no less affecting. This more contemplative approach to production suggests an artist still finding new ways to push forward, even as industry accolades (Forbes India's 30 Under 30, Rolling Stone India cover, RA’s Best Tracks of the Year) pile up in his wake.

Since ‘When We Get There's 2024 release, Bakshi has been touring an ambitious Live A/V show created with visual studio Ocupus. The collaboration transcends typical electronic music performance tropes, instead creating a sensory ecosystem where Bakshi's intricate sound design finds its visual counterpart in Ocupus's architectural point-cloud visuals—an ambitious fusion that somehow manages to feel both experimental and accessible, much like Bakshi's best work.

Bakshi’s trajectory has taken him from SXSW Sydney to Wonderfruit Festival, Lollapalooza Mumbai to Magnetic Fields, sharing stages with electronic music's upper echelon—Caribou, Bonobo, Flying Lotus, Fatboy Slim to name a few. Yet it's in India's flourishing underground where Bakshi's influence runs deepest. As co-founder of boxout.fm, the country's leading independent radio platform, he's helped architect the infrastructure that emerging artists now call home. His DJ sets, have been gaining notoriety, with memorable DJ outings at DGTL Goa, Mixmag The Lab, Boiler Room, SXSW Sydney (Astral People showcase) marking watershed moments in his evolution from producer to cultural connector.
